Bundesliga, 2-2 between Leipzig and Bayern Munich. Bayer Leverkusen fly first in the standings

Second draw of the season for Tuchel’s team. Bayer Leverkusen takes advantage of this and thanks to the three goals scored against Mainz they take the top of the championship

A time each, for a shared show. Leipzig and Bayern drew 2-2 and confirmed the feeling that the Bundesliga is particularly balanced this year. In the first half, the hosts took the lead with goals from Openda (20th minute) and Lukeba (26th minute). The Bavarians reacted in the second half, first with Kane (57th minute), then with Sané (70th minute). Bayern proved to be fragile and attackable, no longer dominant as in the past. But Leipzig has grown further compared to last year.

the race

Tuchel recovers Upamecano and Kim in defense and lines up his team with a 4-2-3-1 with Coman, Musiala and Sané behind Kane. Leipzig, without Dani Olmo, responds with the new Xavi Simons and Openda. The Bavarian team got off to a better start and came close to taking the lead in the 3rd minute with Musiala: Kane launched it and put it in front of Blaswich, who did well to react with his foot to the German’s conclusion. Leipzig shows itself in the 12th minute, when Ulreich, coming out, manages to anticipate Simons but passes the ball to Forsberg who, from around 40 metres, misses the open goal. In the 20th minute the club controlled by Reb Bull took the lead: Puolsen triggered Schlager who in turn sent the ball to Openda, who did well to free himself from Kim and beat Ulreich with his left foot. The hosts take courage and first ask for a penalty (Kim-Openda contact) and then double it: on a corner (which shouldn’t have been such) Ulreich comes out badly and allows Openda, positioned at the far post, to make the tower for Lukeba who puts the ball into the goal. From that moment on, Leipzig lowered their center of gravity and limited Bayern’s opportunities.

the recovery

In the second half, however, everything changes, right from the formation: Tuchel sends in Tel and Guerreiro for Coman and Goretzka and the Bavarians manage to take the field. On a free kick from Sané, Heinrichs widens his elbow too much and hits the ball, thus causing the penalty which Kane converts. Bayern believes it and Guerreiro comes close to equalizing with an interesting shot from outside. Leipzig tries to put their heads out there, but the Bavarians take advantage and equalize: after a corner from the home team, Tuchel’s team starts on the counterattack with Musiala, who does well to trigger Sané who beats Blaswich with his left foot. From that moment both teams slow down, trying more not to take them than to give them. Between the two, Bayern pushes more, but Leipzig no longer concedes anything. On the contrary, Leipzig had the biggest opportunity, with Sesko arriving very slightly late on a cross from Simons that only needed to be pushed towards goal. It ends like this, with Leipzig missing a great opportunity, but demonstrating that they are now on Bayern’s level.
