Uncertainty about enough places to sleep in Ter Apel next night

It is uncertain whether there will be enough sleeping places for asylum seekers at the registration center in Ter Apel tonight, the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) reports. It is not yet clear whether people will have to sleep outside as a result.

It remains uncertain in the coming days whether it will be possible to offer shelter to every asylum seeker, according to the COA. In recent days, ‘large numbers’ of asylum seekers have been reporting to Ter Apel, but in the end there was enough room every night.

Last week, State Secretary Eric van der Burg (Asylum) called on municipalities to make more places available for the reception of asylum seekers. Two days earlier, UNICEF had already warned the Netherlands that unaccompanied minor asylum seekers in Ter Apel might have to sleep on chairs or on the floor. This ultimately turned out not to be necessary last week.
