With their fourth win in a row, the Adler Mannheim have at least temporarily taken over the lead in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Coach Johan Lundskog’s team won 5:4 (3:1, 2:1, 0:2) at the Löwen Frankfurt and thus pushed the Kölner Haie into second place. The dethroned leader can regain first place on Thursday with a success at the Iserlohn Roosters (7:30 p.m./Magenta Sport).
Jordan Szwarz (6th), Matthias Plachta (7th) and John Gilmour (9th) put Mannheim on the supposed winning path early on. The Lions’ follow-up goal by Ville Lajunen (10th) was countered by Plachta (23rd) and Markus Hännikäinen (29th) to make it 5-1. Frankfurt’s double packer Maxim Matuschkin (31st/43rd) and Eugen Alanov (47th) left the guests trembling again in the final phase.
