Jasper Devos set the tone for the men. Swimming – without a wetsuit! – things went well and after cycling he was part of the leading group. In the closing running number, Devos placed the decisive acceleration. He crossed the line solo. After four years of trying, he finally succeeded at the Belgian Championships.
Lotte Vandekerckhove also did very well and laid the foundation for her victory during the running number. The fact that both the male and female Belgian champions come from the same municipality is extremely rare and may be considered unique within Belgian triathlon sport.
