Catherine Keyl decided at the last minute not to enter the House of Representatives. “I dreamed that my car tires were punctured and my house was set on fire.”

Nowadays, being a celebrity is enough for a spot on the electoral list. Lucille Werner switched from Lingo to CDA and Yesim Candan wanted to exchange her RTL News column for a place on the D66 list. She ended up standing there for 24 hours. And now it turns out that we have also narrowly escaped a career change by Catherine Keyl.

Catherine on electoral list

Catherine narrates Story that she would almost have been given a place in the House of Representatives after the upcoming elections. “I have been asked to become a list pusher. I think that’s a bit of a mean title. Because then you try to get a lot of votes for the party, and then walk away. I’m not really into that.”

The presenter continues: “The question arose whether I wanted to be on the electoral list so that I could enter the House of Representatives if I got enough votes. In any case, it is not about the party of Pieter Omtzigt or Caroline van der Plas. It is a small fraction.”

From the inside

The chance of a seat would have been real, Catherine believes. “If I were there, I could hopefully change something from within. That was all running through my head. And that continued in my sleep. Only, then the thoughts became nightmares…”

And through those nightmares, Catherine finally sees last minute from a spot on the electoral list. “I dreamed that my car tires were punctured and that my house was set on fire. Threats that are nowadays more the rule than the exception in politics in The Hague. That made me decide to say no to this faction.”

BVNL

It seems to be about a place on the BVNL list, where Henk Krol is now number two. He sits with Catherine on the board of the Stichting PensioenVoldoen foundation.

BVNL gets 0 or 1 seat in most polls.
