Will relatives in the Theodoor V. case finally get clarity?

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) will inform the relatives of possible victims in the case surrounding nurse Theodoor V. about the investigation. Relatives hope that they will learn more about the death of their loved ones after months of uncertainty.

In a letter to the relatives, the Public Prosecution Service writes that the investigation has progressed so far that more information can be shared about the death of their loved ones.

The prosecutors involved in the case will personally discuss the matter with the surviving relatives. The Public Prosecution Service confirms that the relatives have been invited for an interview, but does not yet want to say anything about the approach.

The relatives do not yet know what will be shared with them during the conversations, says victim advocate Sebas Diekstra. He is assisting several surviving relatives in the case surrounding Theodoor V.. “In these types of cases, so-called officer interviews are very common. The painful thing in this case is that people have had to wait for months for clarity,” says Diekstra.

During officer interviews, victims or surviving relatives are generally informed about the status of an investigation. Such conversations also often indicate whether the Public Prosecution Service will prosecute a suspect or whether it will dismiss a case.

Diekstra: “The past period has been very difficult and uncertain for the relatives. It was often a roller coaster, with a suspect being released and the medical documents not being shared with the Public Prosecution Service. The relatives hope that more will finally become clear. about their loved ones.”

Relatives have been complaining for some time that they are not involved enough in the investigation into Theodoor V. Since the man from Veenhuizen was arrested on April 20 in connection with the death of about twenty patients, they have received only sparse information from the Public Prosecution Service.
