200 activities throughout Spain to celebrate Bird Day

These are the observations, workshops and conferences scheduled for September 30 and October 1

The Spanish Society of Ornithology (SEO/Birdlife) will celebrate the ‘Day of the Birds‘ next September 30 and October 1 in more than 70 points in Spain. Throughout these two days, more than 200 ‘birding’ activities have been organized such as guided routes, conferences or bird watching points.

On this website You can see all the planned activities, province by province, and the requirements to register for them, if necessary.

Among the activities that will take place in Madridthere is a guided and volunteer itinerary or cleaning work in Jarama and Miralrío as well as an urban biodiversity workshop at bird feeders in Móstoles.

In Barcelonathere will be workshops and children’s games at the Castell de Torre Baró, and in the Garraf Natural Park there will be bird watching stations.

In Valenciathe Albufera Natural Park will be the protagonist of these activities, with excursions and ornithological boat trips.

In the Region of Murciathe Moreras lagoons (Mazarrón) will host scientific ringing and bird watching sessions.

On the other hand, in Asturias There will be an observation route in the Ría de Villaviciosa and a conference at the Grau Town Hall.

In Pontevedraspecifically in O Grove, an excursion with a guided itinerary will be carried out to show the varied birdlife of the area

In Majorcathe Lluc botanical garden will host a long list of activities, including the making of nest boxes, conferences and itineraries, while in Malaga The events will be at the mouth of the Guadalhorce, with excursions, children’s workshops and ringing.

On the other hand, on the occasion of the celebration, SEO/BirdLife urges society to become aware of the alarming current loss of biodiversity.

This is because according to the ‘Red Book of Birds’, 56 percent of the birds evaluated have conservation problemswhile 25 percent, which represents 90 species of Spanish birdlife, are threatened and included in risk of extinction categories of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
