FC Barcelona has extended coach Xavi’s contract. As the Catalans announced on Friday evening, the 43-year-old is now tied to the club until 2025 instead of 2024 with another year as an option. The club icon, who played 767 games for Barça when he was active and is therefore in second place in the record player ranking, has been on the sidelines since November 2021 and has scored an average of 2.07 points from 96 games so far.
Last season he led the club to the Spanish championship and Super Cup victory with a victory in the Clásico against Real Madrid.
“Xavi came to Barça to build a new team based on the DNA of Barcelona, an identity very familiar to the Terrassa native. The big challenge was to create a solid team with a recognizable game model, consisting of both experienced and very young players. A goal that he has achieved over time,” says the club statement on the occasion of the extension for Xavi, who has already spent 24 years as a professional in Barcelona.
