Gold transport robbery: three perpetrators in jail and they have to pay compensation

Three men from Eindhoven have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms in Belgium for a robbery of a gold transport. In addition, they must pay compensation of more than 200,000 euros. The robbery took place in November 2022 in Vosselaar, about ten kilometers across the border near Baarle-Nassau.

Belgian media spoke of a ‘spectacular gold robbery’. ‘Just like a crime film,’ wrote the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad. The robbery took place when the courier was parked at a gas station. He transported 400,000 euros in gold and silver to Antwerp for a coin company.

At an unguarded moment, the thieves smashed the rear window of the car. It was broad daylight, several witnesses saw it happen in front of them. In their haste, the thieves dropped another 170,000 euros in gold on the ground. They then sped off in a red Fiat Panda, with a Dutch license plate.

Because there were camera images, their identities could quickly be traced. Since then, Patrick vd K. (36) and Mike T. (31) from Eindhoven have been spotted internationally. Later, Eindhoven resident Michel B. (24) was also linked to the case.

Mike T. was arrested in Torremolinos, Spain in February. He admitted to having sold the loot with his ‘mate’ to a jeweler in Eindhoven. During the trial, T. turned out to be a repeat offender. He has already been convicted eleven times in our country, mainly for thefts. The highest prison sentence went to him: thirty months. His co-perpetrators were sentenced to 24 and 15 months in prison.

The judge has ordered the three men from Eindhoven to pay the gold company compensation of 201,250 euros.
