After Marseille draw, Ajax coach Steijn is proud: “Our back is right”

After the chaotic 3-3 against Marseille, Maurice Steijn was mainly proud of his team. “When I see how the team has straightened out, it makes me proud,” the Ajax coach said at the press conference afterwards.

After a dramatic 3-1 defeat at FC Twente, Ajax smelled its chance to take revenge tonight in the Arena. The team got out of the starting blocks and was already 2-0 up within 20 minutes, but gave that lead away before half time.

In the second half it looked like Ajax would still keep the three points in the Arena, but in the end the Amsterdam team had to make do with a draw. After Ajax took the lead again in the second half through Kenneth Taylor, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang made it 3-3 in the 78th minute.

“I think I can say that I am proud of the team,” coach Maurice Steijn started the press conference afterwards. “When I see how the team has straightened out, it makes me proud. We had the momentum to decide the match, but unfortunately we didn’t succeed.”
