A man has been arrested who, according to the police, has something to do with the disappearance of Maria Drezaliu. The 17-year-old Romanian girl has been missing since King’s Day last year. She then disappeared from a youth institution in Ossendrecht. It is not known where the suspect was arrested and where he comes from. It is also still unclear where the girl is currently staying.
Maria was fifteen years old when she was last seen on April 27, 2022 at the institution where she stayed in Ossendrecht. She had already been approached to involve her in human trafficking. Maria was then able to flee inside, where supervisors caught her.
On King’s Day, things still went wrong when she was exercising. She was taken in a car by ‘a bald, portly man in his forties’, the police later reported in Opsporing Verzocht.
This man is the one who was arrested this summer. He is suspected of human trafficking. According to police, he took the girl and fled with her. She further states that she remains very concerned about the fate of the Romanian woman.
Maria Drezaliu is one of more than 250 missing persons cases that the police investigate with the annual campaign ‘Mis je Mei?’ draws attention. Of these, almost 10 percent were last seen in Brabant in May last year.
