Jacobs leaves coach Camossi: “He’s great, but it’s right to part ways”

The Olympic champion revealed the end of the relationship with the coach: “We wrote the history of Italian and world athletics, but life has its phases.” The full interview with all the details will be on newsstands tomorrow with the Gazzetta

From our correspondent Andrea Buongiovanni

Imagine an afternoon in Desenzano del Garda, at the “home” of Marcell Jacobs. More precisely at the Eden Lounge Bar, an elegant venue owned by the Olympic champion for a couple of months, managed by mother Viviana and brother Jacopo. It is a few hundred meters from the Tre Stelle, the athletics stadium. And it is here that Marcell chooses to make official a choice that, in one way or another, will change the course of his career: the end of the relationship with coach Paolo Camossi.

The farewell

“It’s true – he says – our collaboration has ended. Paolo is no longer my coach. Together we wrote the history of Italian and world athletics. We shared beautiful moments. But life has its phases and we have reached the conclusion that it is right to separate our paths. It was a difficult decision, I won’t deny it. Paolo was an important, fundamental guide for me. I wish him luck and success in his future professional career. Even if our paths diverge, it remains for me a great coach.”

Perspectives

The future is to be written: there isn’t a new coach yet. But the skein will unravel relatively soon. Meanwhile, some clear indications: “I feel the need for a total change, for new stimuli – explains the policeman – and, above all, a group with which to share the hardest work sessions. My family and I will leave Rome: there are several options on the table, in Italy and abroad. They will have to be evaluated very carefully.” All the details in the interview with La Gazzetta on newsstands tomorrow.
