Borussia Dortmund has agreed to schedule the Bundesliga game against Werder Bremen immediately after the national soccer team’s trip to the USA.
“There is no other solution, we will play the game this Friday,” said sports director Sebastian Kehl on the pay-TV channel “Sky” before the game at SC Freiburg. “We will accept it that way,” but point out that the problem will not repeat itself. “It’s definitely not ideal,” said Kehl.
The DFB selection travels to the USA for two games in October. The game against Mexico in Philadelphia will be played at 2 a.m. German time on Wednesday morning, after which the team will travel back to Germany.
The following Friday, BVB, who had deployed five professionals for the September games without the ailing Niclas Füllkrug, will play against Werder.
Kehl said that he had therefore been in contact with the German Football League, the German Football Association and the broadcaster. The Bremen game can be seen on the streaming service “DAZN”.
