Initially, the lawn on the other side of their homes was in sight for the exercise garden, but after consultation with various parties in the area, this option was not chosen. “Maybe even better,” thinks Vissers. “Many people of different ages come together here at the village hall. This really is a nice gathering point.”
Social contact is an extra aspect that the ladies find important. “Sometimes I go for a walk with the dog, and you meet people, but you don’t really speak to each other. With the exercise garden that might be easier,” says Meijberg. They are both proud of what they have achieved. “Everyone thought it wouldn’t work out that way, but we did it,” laughs Vissers.
Most fitness equipment has now been installed. Vissers and Meijberg look around again. The latter points to the nearest cross trainer. “I actually think that’s the most beautiful device. It’s nice to move my arms and legs at the same time, I could maybe use that a bit,” she laughs.
