Reporter and presenter Maria Veitola tells on Instagram about the latest online scam he has fallen victim to. Veitola found out through her followers that her pictures and name are being used for financing purposes.

– I have become the focus of an online scam. Again, Veitola starts its publication.

According to him, a scam is spreading on various social media channels, such as Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, promising easy enrichment. According to Veitola, his name and pictures have been used in money-swindling advertisements.

– This recent scam that took place in my name has been coded to look like a genuine Helsingin Sanomat article and it is being shared from the social media accounts of foreign influencers, herbalists and airlines, he describes.

Veitola emphasizes that he has nothing to do with the spreading advertisements.

– I’m furious because I can’t do anything about the scam, it just keeps growing, he specifies.

Warning about scams

Veitola opens up its experience on social media, because it wants people to avoid nasty scams. In the publication, Veitola has compiled tips on how to avoid falling for an online scam as best as possible in three pictures.

– The Internet is full of fraudsters who try to attract ordinary people with ordinary problems as customers. If something online seems too good to be true, don’t click, he states.

If the publication is not visible, you can view it from here.

Veitola has gained the trust of its followers on social media, which is why some have thought that Veitola is really behind the ads. The presenter criticized the fact that his image and reliability are being used for the purpose of cheating.

– It’s disgusting that my trustworthiness is used for fraudulent purposes like this. So it’s a scam and a fraud, he commented regarding the advertisements.

It angers Veitola that his personal brand is used rudely and without permission for online scams, where products that look believable are advertised to consumers. PASI LEISMA

Not the only one

In the publication, he emphasizes that the fault is not with those who have lost money due to seemingly reliable online scams. The fault is always in the perpetrators and the cruel deception of people.

– If you fall for an online scam, it’s not your fault, Veitola emphasizes.

Veitola is by no means the only one that has recently been the target of a scammer’s campaign. In the publication’s comment field, author Sofi Oksanen opens up about her own experience.

– These swindlers are terribly rude and cunning, and there are few things that annoy me more than the fact that they try to swindle money from unsuspecting people in my name, Oksanen commented.

In July, slimming products were sold in the name of Pippa Laukka, although Laukka herself was not involved in the advertisements in any way.

– An unknown party stole my identity and uses it to sell a humu weight loss product online, Laukka said at the time on his Instagram account.

– If you are about to order something online, stop and think first about what is true and what is false, he reminded.
