He iPhone 12 exceeds the emission limits of radio frequency waves established by the National Frequency Agency (ANFR), which means that the human body absorbs more radiation in contact with this device than is considered safe, and which has led to its withdrawal from the market in France.
The ANFR has analyzed 141 mobile phones to determine the rate of radiofrequency energy absorbed by the human body when using these devices, with the aim of assess if they meet the absorption rate limits specific established by this body, considered safe.
The analysis takes into account tactile contact at a distance of 0mm for this rate, that is, attached to the user’s extremities when they have it in their hand or kept in their pants pocket; and at a distance of 5mm from bodywith the cell phone kept in a jacket pocket or in a bag.
The body in charge of this analysis has warned that the iPhone 12 pushes the limits established at least in one of the two tests, as stated in a press release. Thus, if the maximum limit for the 0mm distance is 4 watts per kilogram (W/kg), the Apple device is placed in 5.74W/kg. In the other analysis it does not violate the regulations, which establishes the limit at 2 W/kg.
As a consequence, the ANFR has demanded the withdrawal of the iPhone 12 from the market, at least until the technology company Apple correct radiation values at 0mm distance with the user’s extremities. This request became effective on Tuesday, as announced by the French Minister of Digital Transition and Telecommunications, Jean-Noël Barrot.
iPhone 12 was presented in mid October 2020 and became the best selling 5G mobile phone that month, accounting, together with the model from the same family 12 Pro, a quarter of global sales of 5G devices in October, according to data from Counterpoint.

OCU also asks the Spanish and European authorities to review and confirm emissions of this terminal in the different countries members, as well as those of the rest of the mobile phones currently on the market, while urging Apple to solve this problem of excess emissions quickly and free of charge.
