Free cultural activities for children during October Children’s Month

It’s only mid-September, but all Drenthe mayors have today kicked off the so-called October Children’s Month. That is a month in which children from 4 to 13 years old can become acquainted with culture.

For example, on Saturday and Sunday they can attend theater performances or workshops in museums for free, says Mayor Inge Nieuwenhuizen of the municipality of De Wolden. This morning the kick-off took place at the Christian primary school De Heidevlinder in Zuidwolde. “But they can also do treasure hunts at the mill or string candles in Ruinerwold.”

According to Mayor Nieuwenhuizen, culture is important for children. “And it’s a lot of fun. It’s fun to make music, for example. That’s not only good for relaxation, but it’s also very enjoyable.”

Councilor Albert Haar, who was also present, agrees. “Culture belongs to people,” he believes. “And you don’t always have to go there, culture also comes to you. It is very important to work on that in class. Whether that is drawing or music, it doesn’t matter.”

There are dozens of activities for children in Drenthe. October Children’s Month is organized by the Art & Culture Foundation.
