Body found in Westeinderplassen indeed of missing swimmer from Aalsmeer (44)

The body found by the police last night in the Westeinderplassen near Aalsmeer is indeed that of the swimmer who went missing yesterday. The police say that it is a 44-year-old man from Aalsmeer.

The man was swimming in the water on Sunday afternoon, but was not seen again at some point. A search operation was started at the end of the afternoon. Fire brigade and police joined the search. The search was conducted with divers and a helicopter.

The body was spotted in the water by a sonar boat around 7:45 p.m. The deceased person was then removed from the water. At the time the swimmer went missing, it was quite busy at the Westeinderplassen due to the warm weather. Part of the water was temporarily closed off so that the diving team had space to search for the victim.

Impact

Police units from various municipalities were called to help in the search. An agent from the Amstelveen base team said on Facebook that the event made a great impression on them.

“Colleagues tell their version and tasks of the report and also express their feelings and possible frustrations,” the officer describes the aftermath. Ultimately, further aftercare was not necessary. People who were present at the Westeinderplassen yesterday can contact victim support.
