There was a serious accident at the Tahko rally when a civilian car appeared on the race track and drove against the rally car.
An old couple caused problems at the Tahko rally organized on Saturday.
Around 12:40, the couple who drove near the route did not agree to stay behind the barrier tapes, but forced their way through them and got to the race route used by the rally cars.
A video filmed by a reader of Iltalehti shows how the number 41 raced Olli Miettinen and second driver Arsi Vilman meet the oncoming red passenger car at high speed. Fortunately, Miettinen had time to react and passed the couple from the right side. A bad accident was avoided.
Race leader of the Tahko rally Tuomo Ahonen says that the man who drove the car that entered the route had threatened the race employee who was guarding the road.
– The locksmith didn’t let them in at first. Then they picked up speed in their car and said that “get off the road, it’s only a couple of kilometers to go”. Of course, the watchman didn’t want to be left behind, but had to jump to the side. They really forced it, Ahonen’s time.
It was decided to close the special exam after the incident. Ahonen later met the man who was driving the car and was told as an explanation that the dog on board could not be kept in a hot car.
Ahonen has worked as a locksmith himself, but he doesn’t remember ever even hearing about such an event before in Finland. Otherwise, the Tahko rally was completed without any major problems.
– A few exits happened, but nothing surprising.
The race organizers have filed a criminal complaint.
