Former soldier Daniel Khalife was arrested in the western district of Chiswick, not far from the prison. During the night from Friday to Saturday, the police received reports from citizens, among others, who said they had seen the man. More than 150 officers had been looking for him for days.
Citizens were advised to call emergency services immediately if they saw the man, but not to approach him themselves despite the fact that he was not considered a danger. A reward of 20,000 pounds (more than 23,000 euros) was offered for the tip leading to the arrest. It is not immediately clear whether the tip money will be paid out.
Khalife, 21, was in prison on suspicion of collecting information for Iran. It is not clear how strong the bond with Iran is and whether he has actually forwarded sensitive information. He is also suspected of planting fake bombs on a military base.
