Red Bull Munich with second win in the CHL

Red Bull Munich got back on track in the Champions Hockey League with their second win in their third game. The German ice hockey champion defeated the Slovakian title holder HC Kosice 5:2 (2:0, 2:1, 1:1) and was in good form six days before the season opener in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

Austin Ortega (11th), Filip Varejcka (18th), Patrick Hager (34th), Nico Krämmer (39th) and Jonathon Blum (45th) scored for the Munich team, who were recently coached by former national coach Toni Söderholm. The next opponent is HC Innsbruck on Sunday (4:30 p.m.), and the Bulls will open the 30th DEL season on Thursday next week against Düsseldorfer EG.

The current CHL season will be played in a new mode. Instead of 32, only 24 teams are taking part. These will not be divided into groups as before, but will play in an overall table in a “regular season” (August 31st to October 18th). Each team only plays once against six different opponents in three home and away games. The best 16 teams advance to the knockout rounds.
