Former NHL defenseman Brad Maxwell died at the age of 66 from lung cancer.

The man’s old game buddy Craig Hartsburg remembered Maxwell on social media.

– There are people who have character and there are those who are characters. Maxy was both. God bless the Maxwell family. Rest in peace my friend, Harstburg wrote.

Maxwell played in the NHL from 1977 to 1987. He represented the Minnesota North Stars, Quebec Nordiques, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers.

Maxwell played a total of 612 regular season matches, where the performances were 98+270=368. There were 79 playoff games and 61 points in them (12+49).

A Canadian never won a Stanley Cup. The closest he got was in the 1981 season in Minnesota, when the North Stars lost to the New York Islanders in the finals, 3–4.

Maxwell, who once played in the NHL’s all-star game, also played in three World Cups, with two bronze medals as a balance.

Minnesota booked a man to the NHL in 1977. Maxwell’s name was called out at the booking ceremony with the number seven.

After his NHL career, Maxwell founded a construction company in Minnesota. He also served as the president of the North Stars alumni association.
