Today Inside star Ben van der Burg has turned down a lucrative schnabble at broadcaster PowNed. He refuses to join their TV show. “I didn’t even call that person back.”
Ben van der Burg is one of the regular guests in Today Inside, the most watched talk show in the Netherlands. Although his market value has risen considerably due to the many appearances in the program, he is quite the boat when it comes to all kinds of schnabs. He also ignored an invitation from PowNed.
No TV ambitions
All those TV things don’t appeal to Ben, he says in the Story. “I was asked via Instagram if I wanted to participate in De Dangerous Roads. But I didn’t even call that person back. I was also asked for a Videoland series, for which I had to travel for a month, but I didn’t do that either.”
Is Ben doing it wisely? Raymond Mens, another VI star who regularly sits on the same stool, is currently shouting everywhere that he should receive three tons from Talpa. No, Hilversum really does not have to call him, says the former long track skater. “I have no TV ambitions.”
Famous Dutchman
Ben admits that VI has made him a real celebrity. “I myself am not so concerned with my fame, but recently I did experience something funny. I had been on holiday with my daughter and had to take the bus from Utrecht station, where she lives, to Soest. That is faster than with a taxi.”
And then? “That bus driver says to me: ‘I thought celebrities only travel in limousines’. I said, “Yes, but this is my limousine, isn’t it?” I liked that so much, that the man reacted like that. That didn’t happen to me a year ago, VI has made me more famous.”
