Only the crème de la crème of Drenthe restaurants have been given a place in the new book by Nino Bouwers from Oosterhesselen. In Flavors of Drenthe he collected these culinary highlights of our province.
He searched through the Michelin guide, the comparable and highly regarded review magazine Gault&Millau, looked at a laundry list of reviews and listened to as many Drenthe gourmets as possible. “A composition was made from this,” says Bouwers. “I cannot claim that it contains the very best, but you will certainly see the top.”
After a strict selection, 44 restaurants remained, which Bouwers and his two co-authors visited. Where most star chefs do not reveal their secrets, they proved to be Flavors of Drenthe well ready to share one of their top recipes. “It contains everything. In any case, something that the chef loves very much,” promises Bouwers.
The lucky restaurant owners attended the book presentation this afternoon in Restaurant Posten in Frederiksoord. One of those present was the manager of ‘t Wapen van Ruinen, who talks about his appreciation with complete satisfaction. “We’re coming out really nice.”
The recipe that ‘t Wapen van Ruinen delivers is the tournedos, the fillet steak that is known as a ‘runner’. “We prepare it a little differently than usual and it sticks out just a bit. It makes you completely happy.”
Bouwers’ hunger has not yet been satisfied. He previously bundled the most appealing restaurants in Groningen. After his Drenthe adventure, it will soon be Friesland’s turn. “And that while we started for a school assignment.”
In June, RTV Drenthe paid a visit to Nino Bouwers and his grandfather Julius Pangkey, who were still busy publishing ‘Smaken van Drenthe’ at the time.
