Netherlands win relay gold in a furious finish

Femke Bol’s World Championships started with a fall – and ended with a spectacle: The star sprinter led the 4×400 m relay of the Netherlands to the World Championship title with a brilliant finish.

At the last decision in the title fights in Budapest, the 23-year-old sprinted past Great Britain (3:21.04) and Jamaica (3:20.88) just before the finish line and secured the Oranje quartet in 3:20, 72 minutes the gold medal.

Bol celebrated her second world title in Hungary, after she had already triumphed over 400 m hurdles. The final runner was also on course for gold on the first day of the competition in the mixed relay over 4×400 m, but fell shortly before the finish.

The title in the men’s 4x400m went to the USA, who easily won the medal table with a total of 12 gold, 8 silver and 9 bronze medals.

Both German seasons could not qualify for the finals.
