With “a barrage of sanctions”, the West hopes to bring Russian President Vladimir Putin to his knees. They must be measures that hurt Russia, says Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open Vld). But what are those sanctions that really affect the country? And can they prevent an outright war in Ukraine? Or are the Russians right when they say “they don’t give a damn”?
