Club boss Carro does not want Saudi clubs in the Champions League

Club boss Fernando Carro from the Bundesliga soccer club Bayer Leverkusen believes that clubs from Saudi Arabia are only rumors of participation in the European Champions League.

“I can’t imagine UEFA offering them a place. And since I’m on one or the other body, I would know,” said the Spaniard, who sits on the board of the European Club Association ECA “Deutsche Presse-Agentur”: “If it should come up at some point, I will resist 100 percent. But at the moment I can’t even imagine that it will even come up on the table.”

For him, the Saudi league is not attractive after upgrading through numerous multi-million transfers of stars like Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar.

“I wouldn’t go there as a player. And not as an official either. For all the money in the world,” Carro, who is likely to be re-elected to the ECA board in Berlin in early September, made it clear: If players go, he condemns them not that one. “I can only speak for myself,” he said: “I wouldn’t do it, I don’t think it’s good and I don’t understand it, but each individual can decide as he or she wants.”
