Can become mandatory
Argentina’s World Cup hero Gonzalo Montiel will appear in the Premier League next season. The 26-year-old right-back, who converted the crucial penalty in the 2022 final against France, was unveiled by Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.
First, he leaves Sevilla FC for a year on loan, after which the “Tricky Trees” have an option for a permanent commitment, which is said to be around 11 million euros, according to official information. According to the Spanish daily “Marca” this becomes an obligation when certain sporting requirements are met.
Sevilla are expected to receive the same sum for Montiel that was transferred to River Plate in 2021 when they brought the right-footed player to Europe aged 24. From then on, this was never set for the Rojiblancos. Instead, he shared playing time with captain Jesús Navas – the 37-year-old veteran is now the only nominal right-back in the squad.
