According to his compatriot Lothar Matthäus, the health of the 77-year-old German former footballer Franz Beckenbauer is not good. There is, however, hope for improvement.
“Franz always said that good health is the most important thing in life. He doesn’t have one at the moment,” said 62-year-old Matthäus to the German channel RTL.
Matthäus confirmed that Beckenbauer had not attended the reunion of the 1990 World Cup winners, which took place in Bavaria last July, for health reasons. Beckenbauer, who will turn 78 on September 11, has largely withdrawn from public life. “We all wish him good health, that he regains his energy with his old self,” said Matthäus.
