In high summer temperatures, the favored German team played superiorly from the start and created chance after chance. The goals alone didn’t want to fall at first.

Goalless at half-time

It was 0-0 at half-time. In the second half of the game, national coach Valentin Altenburg’s team did better by scoring goals. Lena Micheel broke the ban with the 1:0 (38th) after a penalty corner. Sonja Zimmermann also made it 2-0 after a penalty corner with a deflected ball (41st).

England couldn’t keep up the pace

While the English women now had nothing to counter the high German pace, the German goals continued happily. Jette Fleschütz (46th/59th) and Pauline Heinz (49th) made it 5-0.

On Tuesday (22.08.2023, 7.30 p.m.) the third group game in Mönchengladbach is against Ireland. A draw is enough for Germany to win the group, through which the DHB team would probably avoid a semi-final duel with the top favorites from the Netherlands.
