Man who killed 4 people in road accident has been released

Omar E., the 28-year-old man from Roosendaal who caused an accident in Oud Gastel last year in which four fatalities fell, is free again. At the beginning of this month he was arrested during a police action in his home and that of his neighbors on Reginadonk in his hometown. Thirteen kilos of soft drugs and 45,000 euros in cash were found. However, the court currently sees insufficient reason to detain him.

The court in Breda emphasizes that the two cases are completely separate. So it has now only been examined whether E. should remain in pre-trial detention in the case of the drug raid. “You really have to have solid reasons to detain someone,” says a spokesperson. “For example, that it concerns a serious offense, such as manslaughter. Or there must be a risk of recurrence. That is not the case in this case.”

The Public Prosecution Service sees it differently and is appealing. “The court has decided that Omar E. can be released again,” explains a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service. “We will appeal against this and hope that this can be dealt with quickly.”

German rental car
In the accident last September, Omar E. rammed into a crossing Toyota with a Mercedes rented in Germany. Two mothers and two young children from Bosschenhoofd were killed in the enormous blow. One girl survived the crash. According to the Public Prosecution Service, E. was driving about 155 kilometers per hour at that time.

According to his lawyer, the speed was a lot lower: 95 kilometers per hour. According to him, the other car should also have given way, but it was already well past the shark teeth.

Earlier this year, the court decided that E. could await his trial at home after a six-month pretrial detention. At least if he adhered to strict conditions. For example, he had to hand in his passport and is no longer allowed to drive. Standard conditions also apply, such as that you may not engage in criminal activities.
