The session of the arbitration case between Carel Eiting and FC Volendam lasted 3.5 hours. Harsh accusations flew back and forth. However, according to technical director Jasper van Leeuwen, there is still a future for Eiting at Volendam. “Carel is and remains our captain, I don’t know why he couldn’t do that.”
“He is a fantastic captain, but he will have to focus on the sporting part and not the peripheral matters,” says Van Leeuwen. He spoke of an ‘absurdist feeling’ after the hearing. “Especially that we are now for the second time in two years. The common thread between the two things is that we want to help boys to a higher level. In two cases we are portrayed as people who do not let their players take a step.”
Van Leeuwen refers to the case with Micky van de Ven. The defender demanded termination of the contract in 2021. Incidentally, he recently left for Tottenham Hotspur for a million dollar amount. “We benefited from this through the resale percentage, which would not have been there without an arbitration case. That is the difference of life and death for Volendam, such amounts.”
“He seems to see us as a springboard to destroy, because he wants another springboard soon,” Van Leeuwen continues about Eiting. “That feels unfair to us.”
Emotional
During Eiting’s closing argument, the player got a little emotional. “I understand that a lot affects him, but we have sat with him and his father several times to prevent this. They continued to walk and threaten arbitration cases. Then it is not appropriate to play the victim role.”
The arbitration committee expects to make a decision within a week. Carel Eiting has been asked for a response, but did not want to respond.
