The English Football Association does not rule out that women’s national coach Sarina Wiegman will one day coach the men of the Three Lions.
“People always say it’s the best man for the job or the best Englishman. Why does it have to be a man?” FA director Mark Bullingham said in a media roundup when asked if Wiegman would follow men’s coach Gareth Southgate could. “I think our answer is always: It’s the best person for the job.”
Wiegman from the Netherlands will play with England’s soccer team on Sunday (12:00 p.m. CEST/ZDF) in Sydney against Spain for the title at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. “We think Sarina is doing a great job and we hope she keeps doing it for a long time. I think Sarina can achieve anything she wants in football,” said Bullingham.

She had previously won the European Championship with the Netherlands and was in the 2019 World Cup final with the Oranje team (0-2 against the USA). Wiegman is also being discussed as a possible successor to Vlatko Andonovski, who has now resigned after the defending champion USA lost out in the round of 16.
