Felix Magath has not been a coach for more than four years. The former champion coach of FC Bayern and VfL Wolfsburg has not yet ended his career. But on the contrary.
Even at the age of 68, Felix Magath does not see his career as over yet. “I’ve experienced everything and have a wealth of experience like no other. I know how football works because I’ve played in all leagues, worked in different positions and clubs. I know what I can do – and that I’m still able am to help professional clubs,” said the 1980 European champion in “kicker”. “100 years ago you were apparently dead at 68. Today it’s different. I can tell you whether it’s in the 1st or 3rd division. Football is also played there.”
All his life he has done nothing but football. That’s why it was a huge problem for him to let go, said Magath, who sensationally led FC Bayern to doubles (2005, 2006) and VfL Wolfsburg to the championship (2009).
Most recently he worked in management, but would rather go back to the coaching bench. “It’s in that position that I can contribute the most. As a player, I quit before I hobbled off the field. I know my limits as a coach, but I know I’m still able to help teams.”
“Yes, I could live more peacefully”
Abroad is also conceivable. “I spoke to the representatives from Kosovo. There are committed people at work there. I would also go to China again,” emphasized the former midfield star.
Most recently, Magath worked as a consultant for the Würzburger Kickers and Admira Wacker Mödling (Austria) through the company Flyeralarm. “Against the Corona background, I could have saved myself Würzburg and Mödling,” said Magath. But the jobs didn’t damage his reputation.
He is currently continuing his education in football, explained the long-time coach. He also watches handball, ski jumping, darts and English football. “Yes, I could live more peacefully. But I’ve never made myself comfortable,” says Magath.
