Tuukka says that he has been asked to join Survivors and Farm, but The Amazing Race is the only reality television series he agrees to.
It was completely clear to Tuuka that he wanted his own father as his competition partner.
– He stammered a bit at first, but eventually he agreed, Tuukka laughs to Iltalehte at the program’s press conference.
Sami, on the other hand, had asked his son if he would like a younger competition partner. Tuukka had assured his father that he specifically wanted to take him on an unforgettable trip.
– Mother was my second option, Tuukka continues.
Sam was particularly concerned about how climate-friendly the Amazing Race format is. At least part of the trips will be made by flying.
– It has been thought about since the beginning, whether it is sustainable in terms of the climate in these times to go flying all over the place. I have thought that I can compensate for my own flights, says Sami.
– In my own value considerations, however, in the end, if my own son asks to join this kind of experience came to the fore. It’s certainly not something to say no to, he continues.
Geocaching
Tuukka and Sami say that they are close and have spent a lot of time together since childhood. Father and son have gone on football trips together and on a few trips abroad. Tuukka thinks that he and his father certainly complement each other well.
The Ritokoski family includes a mother, a father and three children, of whom Tuukka is the middle one. Sami works as a lecturer at Diakonia University of Applied Sciences.
– The joint hobby history is long. When the children were small, my wife and I decided that we wanted to be present in our children’s childhood. Between me and Tuuka, it meant that I have coached him in soccer and acted as the ice hockey team’s guardian and team leader, Sami describes.
Both Sami and Tuukka are most looking forward to the adventure in the program and where they will end up with the filming. Father and son are also keen geocachers.
– The program is a bit like a treasure hunt. Maybe that history of ours helps here, or not. The concept is really fun, Tuukka reflects.
Win home
Sami recalls watching the Yankee version of the Amazing Race program with Tuukka several times when Tuukka was little. Sami admits that he watched the latest season with a slightly closer eye.
What excites the duo the most about the trip is that it would end up being really short.
– This has been waited, prepared and excited for so long that it’s sad if you don’t get to meet fellow competitors or see great places, Tuukka admits.
– It would also be sad if the trip was interrupted, for example, due to illness or injury, Sami continues.

Both Ritokoskis are competitive, but the prize pot of 30,000 euros is not always in mind. However, Tuukka insists that he would not participate in the program if he did not want to come home as a winner.
Tuuka and Sami both have dream travel destinations in mind that they would like to visit during the program.
– For a long time, I have dreamed of big cities in Asia, for example Tokyo.
– I could think of going to Iceland or the mountains of Central Europe! Sami decides.
