Emmen spends 1.5 tons on neighborhood and village initiatives; most money for Schuilmite

Emmen has made the cut for six liveability initiatives within the municipal boundaries. The available 143,288 euros will be divided between village hall d’Aole Turfstee, Wijkcentrum Angelslo, Natuurbad De Zandpol, the Schuilmijt in Emmer-Compascuum, the children’s farm in Zwartemeer and SV Twedo.

The money comes from the Villages and Neighborhoods Stimulation Scheme, which residents can appeal to organizations to improve the quality of life in their village or neighbourhood. “In this way we can improve important meeting places and make them more beautiful, so that neighbors can enjoy being together again. That is exactly why we created this scheme,” explains alderman René van der Weide.

EUR 34,125 is for d’Aole Turfstee village house in Oranjedorp, so that a new kitchen can be purchased and more activities can be organized, such as healthy cooking with and for the residents. There is a subsidy of 25,000 euros for the Angelslo community centre. This money is for a folding wall, with which the large hall can be divided in two, so that the community center can be used by different parties at the same time.

Natural pool De Zandpol in the village of the same name can add 4,250 euros. Some of the existing playground equipment for children there is so outdated that it was no longer safe and has been demolished. The money can be used to purchase new devices. Almost five thousand euros will go to the children’s farm in Zwartemeer, which needs to be renovated on several points. The herd is also expanding.

The most money, half a ton, goes to the Schuilmijt in Emmer-Compascuum. This rest and vantage point for walkers and cyclists was set on fire three years ago, but is being rebuilt at the request of village interests. Finally, SV Twedo can also add 25,000 euros. The football club can use this to renovate and move the outdated changing rooms.
