Garnished with photos and videos that are supposed to show Emre Can shortly after his contract extension at BVB, the usually well-informed newspaper reports that the German soccer international has extended his working paper, originally dated until 2024, by two more years,
The “Ruhr Nachrichten” also comes up with details from the new contract. Can is said to have made “slight cuts” in his salary, but in return “performance-related bonuses” are said to have been agreed.

In the summer of 2020, as a result of a six-month loan, Can moved from Juventus Turin to Dortmund for a reported 25 million euros, where he got off to an excellent start, but in times of great personnel shortage at BVB he was pushed from position to position and ultimately fell behind.
In 2023, however, the 29-year-old presented himself in excellent form again, moved back to his favorite position in defensive midfield and was one of the faces of the upswing that almost led Borussia to their first championship since 2012.
Will BVB announce the deal on Saturday?
“He became more and more important in the second half of the season. Now it’s about staying on the right path. Emre is also an extremely important contact person for me,” emphasized coach Edin Terzic, when asked about Can’s role, recently after Dortmund’s 3-2 win in the test against Rot-Weiss Oberhausen. An extension was already evident at the time.
However, Terzic also made it clear that no less would be expected from Can in the future: the native of Frankfurt would be “measured” by precisely these performances. Everything indicates that Can now has three years left to pass the bar.
