Program Olympic Games today| Leading role Irene Schouten at closing ceremony, bobbers miss final | Beijing Winter Games

The Beijing Olympics end on Sunday. For the Netherlands, only bobsleigher Ivo de Bruin and his inhibitors Jelen Franjic, Janko Francjic and Dennis Veenker are still in action today.

The foursome did not participate in the battle for the medals in the Yanqing National Sliding Center. With the 26th fastest time after three descents, De Bruin and his colleagues missed the top 20 by more than a second and therefore the final run. Despite this, he was very proud of his team.

After the first two heats on Saturday, the bobbers are in 25th place. The third round in the four-man bob starts at 2:30 am Dutch time. De Bruin must be in the top 20 after the third heat to be allowed to participate in the fourth and final heat.

The closing ceremony at the Vogelnest stadium starts at 13.00† Irene Schouten carries the Dutch flag. The long track skater won gold three times in the Chinese capital, in the 3000 meters, the 5000 meters and the mass start.

TeamNL won seventeen medals in China: eight gold, five silver and four bronze. At the previous two Winter Games, the Netherlands scored better, with 24 medals in Sochi (2014) and twenty times in Pyeongchang (2018). There was no difference in the number of gold medals, the last three Games left the Netherlands with eight Olympic titles.

The next Winter Games will be in Italy in 2026 (Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo).
