Green light for new Steenbrugge bridge

“Now that this project has been given the green light, we can start building the movable bicycle and pedestrian bridge and tackle the first zone of the canal bend. The construction of the new high road bridge and the second part of the canal bend will then start from 2024. That is a good thing for our city, it is important that the Steenbrugge Bridge is built as soon as possible,” says Flemish representative and Bruges party leader Maaike De Vreese (N-VA).

After the first public inquiry, 55 objections had been submitted. The Flemish Waterway subsequently submitted a change request for the requested permit. For example, adjustments were made to the intersection design of both intersections and the buffer and infiltration capacity. It is therefore important that the works are completed as quickly as possible and that the nuisance for the Steenbruggeling is limited as much as possible. The time has come to bring this project to a successful conclusion. This way we can move towards a smoother traffic flow and a safer traffic environment in Steenbrugge,” concludes De Vreese.
