Over 20 unavailable for Treviso, the Warriors take advantage of it. But they have to sweat for the final 13-3
Treviso is defeated by the Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow 13-3 in a match heavily influenced by the absences at Benetton. More than twenty unavailable for coach Bortolami, among which the seventeen athletes in retirement with ItalRugby stand out. However, those present did not give up at all, offering a fair (albeit imprecise) offensive test combined with an excellent defense. Too many technical errors committed in the 22 of the Warriors in the second half of the first half (even seven forward) that prevented the lions from reaching the interval in a favorable scoring situation. But there is no time to complain, because the Sharks will arrive in Treviso on Saturday 26th in a key game to stay on the left side of the table.
First half
–
The Glasgow rain forces both teams to take a very tactical approach, abusing the game on the foot in the early stages. However, after just three minutes, it was Miotti’s placing that opened the ball, to which Albornoz promptly replied from a favorable position for the 3-3. The Warriors just control the Benetton’s offensive flurries, waiting for the right moment to strike. To a very orderly Scottish defense are added many, too many forward by Treviso in the many trips inside the 22 opponents. It is Glasgow to hit the big target, with Smith overwhelming Wegner and crushing in goal after a multiphase of the hosts; Miotti does not transform. In addition to a Treviso already heavily remodeled are the injuries of Herbst (concussion) and Lazzaroni, who took over just a few minutes before the second South African line. Benetton reacts, but technical errors limit the lions’ offensive effectiveness despite a fixed presence in the red zone between 28 ‘and 40’. The teams therefore go to rest on 8-3 in favor of the hosts, with many regrets in the Treviso home.
Second half
–
The second half opens exactly like the first fraction, with both teams continuing in the tactical game without leaving too many spaces for the opponents. At 51 ‘Cannone and Zuliani tackle Brown with the game stopped, with Benetton’s number 8 being sanctioned with a yellow card. Glasgow did not miss the opportunity and immediately took the shot: it was Dempsey who closed a series of pick and go by passing the green-and-white defense barricaded on the goal line; after Miotti, Thompson also fails the transformation, thus leaving the score at 13-3. Treviso is unable to regain the offensive fluidity of the first half, while the hosts remain strong in the opposing half of a possession without any smudging, effectively putting the match to sleep and winning four points that propel Glasgow to second place in the United Rugby Championship behind Leinster.
