The municipality of Noordenveld has been struggling for years with building plans in Roden-Zuid. The first shovel is far from going into the ground. In the meantime, the so-called infill, building within the existing village center, is progressing more smoothly.
With the demolition of the old post office on Wijnbergstraat, a new infill project was kicked off last week. Thirteen new homes are being built on the site of the post office. It concerns ten semi-detached houses, two corner houses and a terraced house.
Houses on ‘leisure boulevard’
It is one of the new construction projects that are being realized within the built-up area of Roden. For example, 56 new homes will be built on the undeveloped site opposite the Kampeerhal on Kanaalstraat: 20 social rental homes and 36 owner-occupied homes. The houses on the ‘leisure boulevard’ are intended for different target groups. The houses at the front will have an industrial look, inspired by the old dairy that is located a little further down the Kanaalstraat. The houses behind it, with two floors and a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor, are suitable for the older target group.
A little further down the Kanaalstraat, on the corner with the Wilhelminastraat, 25 homes will be added. This piece has also been a ‘rotten tooth’ in the center of Roden for years.
The municipality of Noordenveld can also continue with the (controversial) plans for building on the currently still green zone along the Roden ring road. The municipality wants to build a hundred homes in the triangle between the ring road of the Maatlanden, the Zulthe and the Vredelaan. Of this, 45 percent consists of social rental homes and cheaper owner-occupied homes up to 355,000 euros.
