Hinke Schokker again fastest in Kardingebultra, a race over 24 hours

Runner Hinke Schokker came first again in the Kardingebultra, a race over 24 hours in the Kardinge city-Groninger recreation area.

It is surprising that the Frisian participated, completed the competition and also won. A week earlier she had already run a competition over a day in Amersfoort. She had become national champion in this. She had covered 201 kilometers and 290 meters in the Keistad.

The Kardingebultra is completely different from a competition in which people run continuously. The participants must complete a lap of 6706 meters, including 30 meters of altitude on the Kardingebult, within an hour. Those who fail to do so will be eliminated. Exactly one hour after the previous start, a new round starts and this goes 24 times. This brings the total distance to 160 kilometers. Whoever finishes first is the winner.

Victor Bastiaansen second at 40 seconds

Schokker was 40 seconds ahead of Victor Bastiaansen from Eesveen in the last round. Last year he was also second. Luciano Pappalettera was third. He lives a stone’s throw from the track.

Seventy runners had started this second edition of the Kardingebultra on Saturday afternoon at four o’clock in good spirits. Ten of them made it to the finish line.

Bram Buigel

In the Irish capital Dublin, Bram Buigel (Groningen Athletics) finished second in the 800 meters of the Morton Games in 1 minute and 46.76 seconds. Home favorite John Fitzsimons won (1.46.55), the Hungarian Balász Vindics crossed the finish line a fraction of a second after Buigel in third.
