How FC Bayern is set up in goal next season is still completely unclear. Honorary President Uli Hoeneß brought some light into the darkness.
For the 71-year-old, it is clear that Manuel Neuer will be the clear number one in goal for FC Bayern after his comeback. On his return, however, you have to give the DFB keeper time. “What we are not allowed to do is that we put Manuel under pressure,” quoted the “kicker” Hoeneß.
Neuer should not get the feeling that he has to play against Werder Bremen at the season opener on August 18th. Rather, a “comfortable atmosphere without pressure” should be created. “The goal is for Manuel to be our number one. It’s all about him. If he’s fine, we’re fine,” said Hoeneß. Buying a new “expensive goalkeeper” is out of the question for the club legend: “I don’t think that would be good.”
Coach Thomas Tuchel struck a similar note on Saturday. “It’s a very tight schedule for the first game, we need time and patience – and he’ll get the time,” said the 49-year-old at the training camp in Rottach-Egern am Tegernsee. A deployment at the start of the Bundesliga or in the Supercup against RB Leipzig six days earlier seems “too ambitious”.
Recently, several media had reported that both Alexander Nübel, who came back from a loan to AS Monaco, and Yann Sommer, who was brought in from Gladbach as a new replacement in the winter, could leave FC Bayern in the summer.
Hoeneß confirms summer clause
Hoeneß also confirmed this. “He has a clause that he could leave if he wanted to,” he said, referring to Sommer and added: “It will depend on how you deal with him. We will have open discussions with him, we have that for him also said so.”
The top Italian club Inter Milan is said to have put out feelers after summer.
No obstacles will be put in the way of Nübel either. “If he finds a club, he can go,” Hoeneß commented.
VfB Stuttgart recently confirmed their interest in the ex-Schalke goalkeeper. However, the Munich team is said to have rejected a first offer for a loan.
