From Monday nothing will roll here anymore. Until the end of the summer holidays, Grunerstrasse on Alexanderplatz to the east is sealed above ground. Motorists have to dive into the tunnel.
New stage at the XXL construction site near the Red Town Hall: Littenstrasse is to be connected to Grunerstrasse, which was laid last year. So that the construction workers have a clear path, the area will be closed until the end of August.

The traffic administration advises motorists to drive around the area. Traffic jams are to be expected because cars can only use the tunnel. There are no restrictions for pedestrians and cyclists.
But two bus lines will be diverted eastbound:
► Line 248: On Mühlendamm – Stralauer Straße – Alexanderstraße.
► Line 300: Spandauer Strasse – Rathausstrasse – Breite Strasse – Am Mühlendamm – Stralauer Strasse – Alexanderstrasse
Progress can now be seen at the largest permanent construction site in Mitte – the new ornamental pavement in front of the Old Mint is finished. At least 27,000 square meters of building land will be gained by moving Grunerstraße to the town hall.
Piece by piece, the cleared areas (including Jüdenstrasse, Stralauer Strasse) are first examined for World War II bombs, etc., then archaeologists dig. Finally, trees are planted. The main road should be finished by mid-2024.
