It stays calm

There are no serious attacks on the first kilometers. They are probably only to be expected in the direction of the first climb.

First mountain classification doesn’t keep us waiting long

After the start, the riders don’t have time to catch their breath because they are soon confronted with the first climb – the Col de Saxel. The 4.2-kilometer ascent begins in Boëge and has an average gradient of 4.6 percent. At kilometer 18.7 they finally reach the top of the pass, where a 3rd category mountain rating is given.

The race is on!

Christian Prudhomme waves the flag from the car for a sharp start! The first attacks are not long in coming. Simon Geschke sits in front of the group and makes the first small attempt.

13:22

Start is delayed

The sharp start will be delayed a little after a defect caused by Biniam Girmay.

13:13

Who else do you have to pay attention to?

In addition to Vingegaard and Pogačar as well as Powless, there are of course a few other riders to watch out for today in the fight for stage victory. Giulio Ciccone from Italy is one of the good climbers in the field and could be aiming for the big hit in the Tour de France today. Felix Gall as well as Michael Woods, Esteban Chaves and Ben O’Connor should also have made plans for the 14th stage.

13:08

The first kilometers

The neutral start will take place in Annemasse on rue Marc Courriard, in the immediate vicinity of the Place des Marchés. This is the second time the city has served as a stage location. The route first leads to the Parc de Montessuit before the riders get onto the Route de Livron. After passing Vétraz-Monthoux, the race is released after 8.3 kilometers just before Nangy.

13:05

Let’s go!

Stage 14 has started and the riders are in the neutralized phase. After about eight kilometers, the sharp start will be at around 1:20 p.m.

12:54

The view of the mountain classification

The current owner of the polka dot jersey is Neilson Powless, who could be under pressure today with a lot of points up for grabs. Tadej Poagčar follows just 15 points behind, while Michał Kwiatkowski and Tobias Halland Johannessen are each 16 points behind. With 52 points up for grabs across the five categorized climbs of Stage 14, it’s definitely one of the defining days around the mountain jersey.

12:44

Vingegaard versus Pogacar

In the overall standings of the Tour de France, the gaps are narrow after yesterday’s stage. The Slovenian Tadej Pogačar was able to get up to nine seconds behind the defending champion on Friday and so today’s stage could also be important in the fight for the yellow jersey. Which team manages to get its star over the tough mountains better could gain valuable time. But it is also clear that the Pogačar team invested a lot in the 13th stage, but could not get what they had actually hoped for. Will that now be a disadvantage in today’s stage?

12:36

Hard stage awaits

In contrast to yesterday’s stage in the Jura Mountains, which featured a single climb, this stage in the Chablais has a total of four mountains of the first or third category, as well as an HC climb, the Col de Joux Plane. More than any other leg of the tour. This makes this stage an important day in the mountains classification. The Col de Cou and Col du Feu are tackled in quick succession for the first 53km, leaving riders little time to recover or rest. After a longer valley road comes the Col de la Ramaz, which at 13.9 kilometers is the longest climb of the day and at 7.1% is anything but easy to ride. The last climb leads up to the Col de la Joux Plane. Together these peaks account for more than 4,000 meters of altitude.

12:15 p.m
