Madouas has to change wheels

That’s bitter: The French champion Valentin Madouas really wanted to be in the escape group on the national holiday and drove very actively. But now the 27-year-old falls far behind, he has to change his bike because of a defect.

No group yet

It can be seen that the slipstream is currently playing a very important role. Again and again the peloton easily closes the gaps to the possible breakaways.

14:00

Strong headwind

But for the first few kilometers the roads are flat as a board, and a strong wind is blowing in the opposite direction. Potential outliers are finding it difficult to break away.

Campenaerts attacks

The first attack of the day is forced by Victor Campenaerts (Lotto-Dstny), several riders are hanging onto the Belgian’s rear wheel. However, nobody can break free from the pelton.

Here we go!

Now Andrey Amador is back in the field, so Tour Director Christian Prudhomme waves his flag out of the vehicle and releases the 13th stage! As usual, the first attacks from the large field are not long in coming, things get straight to the point.

13:54

Defect at Amador

About a kilometer before the scheduled start, Andrey Amador goes to his team vehicle. Apparently, the 36-year-old from EF Education-EasyPost has a technical defect. This should delay the release of the race for a short time.

1:45 p.m

It’s rolling

In the meantime, the entire main field has slowly started to move. It is now about ten minutes in neutralized driving through the streets of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne. For the first time ever, the place, which belongs to a community near Lyon, appears in the tour program.

Review of the previous day

Beaming with joy, Ion Izagirre crossed the finish line yesterday, Wednesday, and as a soloist he was able to be celebrated extensively for an outstanding escape. The 34-year-old veteran triumphed in Belleville-En-Beaujolais and gave his French team Cofidis their second success at this year’s loop. On a hectic and hard-fought day, it took around an hour and a half for the race to settle down in the classic sense and for the breakaways to be found. Izagirre then broke away from a breakaway group on the final climb, nobody could follow the Spaniard’s explosive start. At the finish he was 58 seconds ahead of Mathieu Burgaudeau and Matteo Jorgenson.

13:23

The daily program

This 13th stage will be relatively short, but by no means painless. The first 80 of a total of 137.8 kilometers are almost completely flat and offer the cycling stars a good opportunity to find their rhythm. Then the uncategorized Col de la Lèbe represents a first indicator of the state of fitness before the final and rock-hard ascent to the Grand Colombier awaits. The switchbacks from Culoz with an average incline of 7.1 percent stretch over around 17 kilometers to the summit – so a spectacular exchange of blows between the class riders is guaranteed.

13:15
