I’m not a lady on Rai 2: the third episode and the eliminated

«Nodon’t be boring, just be a queen», word of Lady Gaga. And also of Alba Parietti, who returns with the third installment of Not i am a lady. Protagonists of the talent show – broadcast tonight at 21.20 on Rai 2 and streaming on RaiPlay – I am 5 famous people called to dress up as drag queens. The goal is to outperform the competition and win the victory of the first edition.

Well-known faces from culture, entertainment and sport collide, week after week, in (very) different clothes than usual. That is, they engage in a radical transformation, which leads them to assume a new identity. A rendered process possible thanks to a deep make-up and wig workand not only.

For a week they are followed by a team led by the three drags present in the program, who teach them how to walk in heels and all the secrets of Drag Queen performance art. In fact, before each performance, the hostess reminds the audience that who is about to take the stage «touch heels for the first time». To emphasize that we are not talking about disguise professionals, but about neophytes who put themselves on the line.

And here the entrance on stage coincides with the beginning of the performance. The drag contestant shows herself under layers of make-up that modify her characteristics. The dress and the wig do the rest, giving life to the new identity. As already happened in the previous weeks, five famous people will take to the field again tonight.

The Drag Queens on the jury and the three tests

The utmost secrecy applies around the identity of each of them. I’m not a lady in fact, it revolves around guessing who is hiding under the mask of drag queens. Anticipating the names of those who participate would be an own goal. Especially because whoever wins the bet, and is not unmasked, enters the final by rightleaving viewers in suspense.

Instead, it is known who will be present in the studio next to Alba Parietti. The three professional Drags are back. They are Elektra Bionic, Vanessa Van Cartier and Maruska Starr. The first won the first edition of Drag Race Italy. The second is an Italian-Belgian drag, lipsync expert, as well as the face of the format Make up your mind Holland. Finally, Maruska looks back on a decade-long career as a Drag singer.

They have the task of judging the performances of the five Drag Queens in the competition. Therefore to establish who wins the bet and enters the final by right. The trials to face in each episode of I’m not a lady there are three: the catwalkor the walkway; the lipsynci.e. being able to sing in playback; the final performance.

On the opposite side of the stage is located the VIP panel, made up of four well-known faces, who face the toughest challenge: guessing the identity of the 5 competitors. The panel is made up of two pairs: Cristina D’Avena and Sabrina Salerno, Filippo Magnini and Mara Maionchi. At the end of each performance, they must give a name. Say, that is, who according to them is hidden under the disguise. Each couple compares and tries to guess. This, together with the Drag performance, is the funniest part of the programme.

Obviously, in addition to pointing to the solution, we need to do entertainment. And in this sense the four hit the target, also launching into hypotheses bordering on the surreal. Foreign actors, characters physically light years away from those who have just performed, unlikely if not impossible names: everything is worth it. And the end result is a fun, light formatwhich tries to tell an art still kept on the margins of the small screen.

There are 8 so far the characters who have removed the mask. In the first episode it was the turn of Rocco Siffredi with the stage name of Eva Lungherja, Patrizio Rispo (Varese Soleil), Lorenzo Amoruso (Gigliola Yard) and Sergio Múniz (Laisla Rodriga). The second saw his debut on stage Fabio Fulco (Angelika), Robert Capua (Vulcanya), Paul Ciavarro (Anna Lacond) and Philip Nardi (Vivienne Smokes). The winners of the two installments are She Funk and The Nances. Obviously their respective identities will only be discovered on the evening of the final.
