In the collective bargaining dispute with the online retailer Amazon, the Verdi union has called on employees to go on warning strikes at several locations in North Rhine-Westphalia from Tuesday to Thursday. The union said the distribution centers in Dortmund, Werne and Rheinberg were affected. The reason for the warning strike is the bargain day “Prime Day” started by Amazon on Tuesday.
According to the information, there is a strike in nine distribution centers across Germany. At some locations, work had already been stopped on Sunday. For years, Verdi has been demanding, among other things, the recognition of the collective bargaining agreements in retail and mail order and the conclusion of a collective bargaining agreement.
According to Amazon, it does not expect any effects from the walkout. The group will therefore pay logistics employees starting wages of 14 euros gross per hour including bonus payments from September.
