Chinook’s door falls down during test flight

A test flight of a Chinook took an unexpected turn on Tuesday. The helicopter lost a door above Ossendrecht. It then fell into a meadow. No one was injured.

The door did not cause any damage to the pasture, says a spokesperson for Woensdrecht Air Base.

“It is a test flight. The chinook departed from Woensdrecht and made a round through the area. Those kinds of flights never go over busy places such as residential areas.” The Chinook landed quickly. The crew escaped unhurt.

An investigation will be carried out in the near future into what caused the door to come loose. According to the spokesperson, more should be clear in the short term. “It’s not a matter of weeks.”

A Chinook is a helicopter used by the Ministry of Defense to transport troops and equipment. The aircraft can be recognized by the two propellers.
