At the proposal of Finance Minister Kaag, the Council of Ministers has approved the nomination of Robert de Groot for the position of Vice President of the European Investment Bank (EIB). De Groot is currently the permanent representative of the Netherlands to the EU.
According to Minister Kaag, his extensive political-administrative experience and knowledge of financial and economic subjects, as well as knowledge of Europe and his large network among fellow governments, make him extremely suitable for this important role within the day-to-day management of the Luxembourg-based EIB.
The EIB is an institution that plays an important role in financing crucial investments for countries. The bank is owned by the member states of the EU and finances projects in areas such as infrastructure, innovation and the environment, and also plays a major role in the climate transition.
As an investment bank, it is one of the largest multilateral financiers and contributes to projects that do not fully materialize in the market. The EIB is also active outside the EU, in a total of around 140 countries, including Ukraine.
